Catherine MacLennan

The Pregnancy Loss Coach

Graduating from the University of Birmingham with a B.Phil (Ed) Youth, Community and Play Studies as a qualified youth, community and play worker. With over 25 years of experience on the front line and in managing services, working in the Public and 3rd Sector with some of Birmingham’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. I have married my expertise and knowledge of working collaboratively in the community and my personal experiences of first and second trimester loss as an expert by experience.

Through my personal and traumatic experience of losing 6 babies in pregnancy in the 1st and 2nd trimesters and holding the label 'incompetent cervix' among others, I have tirelessly campaigned to improve services for those who experience loss in the 2nd trimester along with providing training to HCP's in delivering a caring and compassionate service.  Developing volunteers through training and coaching to deliver a first-class service. I have worked with many Health Trusts through sharing best practice, as a consultant to my local Health Trusts and CCG (which includes the Tommy's National Centre for Miscarriage Research) on how they deliver services, offer support and gave regular feedback on families’ experiences within these trusts.  I facilitated a powerful focus group on Women who miscarry in the second trimester strand of the #MatExp #NobodysPatient.  I have also sat on a number of research and trial committees ensuring the human voice is heard.

I have journeyed with 100's of parents as they navigate their way through pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss through offering a safe and compassionate space for them to explore their feelings in groups and on a 1-2-1 basis.

I continue to raise awareness of pregnancy loss and its relationship with Perinatal Mental Health and Birth Trauma, pregnancy loss in the workplace, supporting families through Pregnancy After Loss and coaching to support families in returning to work.
